Bulgaria Cup in Albena

Published on 15 07 2026

Albena Resort is hosting the third round of the prestigious Bulgaria Cup equestrian tournament on 15 and 16 July. The resort’s equestrian base has brought together an impressive number of competitors, with between 30 and 40 horses expected to take part.

The event is part of Albena’s ambition to establish equestrian sport at key tourist destinations in Bulgaria. The prestigious competition series takes place at several locations, with other important host cities also contributing to its organisation. Panagyurishte gave the tournament a strong and successful start in May. Primorsko hosted the second round on 11 and 12 July, where part of the elite field competed before heading north. Sofia’s South Park will host the grand final in September.

The local Albena Equestrian Club will be represented by rider Trifon Trifonov. He will enter the arena with the horses Zalanta Z and Kalantina.

The organisers from Albena, led by Georgi Trifonov, Chairman of Albena Equestrian Club and Deputy Director at Albena AD, will present a high-level programme for visitors and tourists, this time with an innovative format.

The competitions are moving beyond closed equestrian bases and coming directly to the public under the motto: “Instead of you coming to us, we come to you.”

All 30 to 40 horses and their riders will compete in different categories. Pony riders and children up to 14 years of age will open the competition with the first rounds. Professional riders will compete in the highlight of the tournament, jumping obstacles of 125/130 cm, where every second matters, according to the organisers from Albena AD.

The format is inspired by the global Global Champions Tour, which turns destinations such as Monaco, Paris, Vienna and Saint-Tropez into arenas for equestrian sport. Thanks to Albena’s role as host, the Bulgarian Black Sea coast also becomes part of this modern sporting tradition.
