The JWTS – Junior World Tennis Series, an international tournament series for children and youth, was hosted last week in beautiful Albena, Bulgaria.

Players from three continents – Europe, Africa, and Asia – competed for valuable world ranking points, trophies, medals, and qualification for the Jana Novotna Cup, the JWTS World Championship.

Matches were held in four age categories:

  • - 10&U (10 years and under)
  • - 12&U (12 years and under)
  • - 14&U (14 years and under)
  • - Youth 21&U (up to 21 years)

There were many exciting matches in singles, doubles, and especially in mixed doubles. The mixed format was a highlight, as JWTS is the first international junior series to officially include mixed doubles.

“We discovered many new talents,” said Thomas Schulze, President of JWTS

He added, “We’re very happy with this tournament – Albena is one of the most beautiful places in the world and the best tennis location in Europe.”

The social experience was just as important as the sport itself:

After the matches, players spent time together at the beach or the water park – reflecting the true JWTS spirit, where international friendships and cultural exchange go hand in hand with competition.

Winners included:

  • - 10&U Girls: Farah Douadi (Algeria)
  • - 10&U Boys: Rafael Jurado (Spain)
  • - 12&U + 14&U Girls: Beloslava Dimitrova (Bulgaria), one of the country’s top young talents
  • - 12&U Boys: Andrey Enev (Bulgaria), who won a thrilling final against Rafael Jurado
  • - 14&U Boys: Kristiyan Petkov (Bulgaria)
  • - Additional winners: David Dimitrov and Iuliia Soloveeva (Bulgaria), both in category Youth

A total of 58 trophies and medals were awarded across all categories.

Many players and families were already asking when the next JWTS tournament in Albena will take place.

This tournament week gave all participants the chance to play many matches and gain valuable experience for their future tennis development.
