The company is the only one from Bulgaria invited to the high-level forum, part of the programme of the Swedish Presidency of the European Council.

Albena JSCo's sustainability policies were presented at an informal meeting of EU environmental ministers held in Stockholm this Tuesday and Wednesday. The event is part of the programme of the Swedish Presidency of the EC and the Stockholm Climate Week 2023 initiative. The invitation to Albena was extended by the Bulgarian Minister in charge, Assoc. Eng. Rositsa Karamfilova. The meeting was hosted by her Swedish counterpart Romina Pourmokhtari. The Bulgarian delegation took part in the plenary session of the forum as well as in several thematic discussion panels, which showcased the most successful European examples for the development of business models in line with contemporary challenges for climate protection and sustainable use of natural resources.

"Albena was the only hospitality company invited to the forum. Everyone was pleasantly surprised by the fact that we cover more than 50% of our energy needs through locally produced renewable energy. We stood out for the extent of our integrated practices in terms of circular economy, namely the recovery of biowaste from the core business and its conversion into biogas. Colleagues appreciated the vertical diversification of the business, through which we produce nearly 60% of our fruit and vegetables, offering assured food quality. They were impressed by the car parking policy in Albena Resort and the investments in e-mobility, through which we contribute to reducing CO2 emissions.  We also discussed the topic of biodiversity, which turned out to be one of the main aspects of the so-called green transformation of the European economy," said after the meeting Denitsa Kuzeva, Business Development Manager at Albena JSCo. She also said that an added value to Bulgaria's presentation in the forum was the company's involvement in EU-funded projects with an environmental focus, such as INVADE and X-FLEX. "Our participation in such a format is a recognition from the highest political level for the solutions and innovations we contribute to accelerate the decarbonisation process of the European and global economy," she concluded.

The first 5-year period of the adopted Sustainable Development Strategy of Albena JSCo ended in 2022. The results of the implemented measures are to be reported and new targets are to be set for the next investment cycle.
