The Deputy Director of Albena Resort eng. Dimitar Stanev, responsible for the business development of the largest Bulgarian joint stock company in the field of tourism and hospitality, presented the achievements of the company in the field of sustainable development. The presentation was part of an international discussion under the title "Sustainable tourism in practice", organized by the Ministry of Tourism within the framework of the specialized exhibition "Holiday and SPA" held in Sofia.
In his presentation, Dimitar Stanev reported the achieved results set in 2017 in the Sustainable Development strategy, including investments in renewable energy capacities, the implementation of the principles of the circular economy, environmental protection, including nature reserve "Baltata", the mineral springs, the sea water and the beach, the reduction of CO2 emissions, social responsibility and investments in human resources. "We are at the end of the first 5-year period and we can boldly claim that today Albena Resort produces 50% of its energy on an annual basis, 60% of the food products come from our farms, and we produce biogas with the waste from the restaurants. We invested about BGN 750,000 in electro mobility, and part of the territory of the complex is already completely prohibited for vehicles", said Dimitar Stanev. He added that the efforts were appreciated by guests, visible in their highest customer satisfaction ratings. The certification bodies have also expressed their satisfaction with the achievement, awarding awards including the Blue Flag for Beach Area Management, Travel Life for Sustainability in Tourism, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 quality certificates. Within the forum, the good examples of the resort were rated highly by Dr. Alexandra Priante - Director for Europe of the World Tourism Organization at the United Nations, from the Ministers of Tourism and Environment and Water Ilin Dimitrov and Rositsa Karamfilova participating in the discussion, from Francesc Matteu - Managing Director of the Agency for Tourism Strategy of the Autonomous Region The Balearic islands.
